Colonnade Lighting – Royal Academy-Inspired Scheme

Area 5

Zone A

A heritage-grade architectural lighting scheme for the rear colonnade, replacing the existing bulkheads with three large hanging lanterns and introducing warm-white uplighting to every column and wing. Two architectural wing-lighting kits extend the effect across the balcony and corner corbels, while each planter receives a discreet sparkle-light socket for seasonal or wedding displays. Pots and planting excluded.

Description of Project

The rear colonnade is one of the hotel’s most classically proportioned architectural features, yet the current bulkhead fittings do not reflect its Royal Academy-style rhythm. This proposal replaces them with a refined, heritage-aligned lighting system that brings out the full character of the pillars, soffits and wings.

Three hanging lanterns replace the existing ceiling bulkheads. In the 5★ scheme these are Heritage lanterns (PC sum £799 each), while the 4★ scheme uses Midnight Beacon lanterns (PC sum £599 each). Both produce a warm-white, traditional glow that gives the colonnade the appearance of a period frontage.

At low level, all loose planter floodlights are removed and replaced with a concealed LightPro 6-uplighter architectural kit. One uplighter is placed behind each planter to wash the surface of every column with soft architectural light.

To complete the rear façade, two further LightPro 8-uplighter kits extend the illumination along the wings, bringing subtle warm-white emphasis to the balcony soffit, corner corbels and surrounding masonry. This ties the entire rear elevation into the estate lighting language used at the front of the building.

Each planter position receives a socket for warm-white sparkle lights, enabling bay, holly or yew trees to be dressed for weddings, corporate events and seasonal celebrations. The full installation is routed back through the SpearPoint system for dimming and scene selection.

FIVE STAR PROPOSAL

Our highest-specification scheme using premium architectural fittings

The 5★ specification creates a truly refined colonnade inspired by the heritage facades of major London institutions. The three Heritage lanterns establish a classical rhythm along the ceiling plane, while the concealed pillar uplighters reveal depth, proportion and texture across the column line. The wing lighting completes the entire rear elevation, lifting the balcony soffit and corbels into warm-white architectural focus.
Planter sparkle-light feeds provide a beautifully soft decorative option for weddings, receptions and Christmas styling. Everything is managed via the SpearPoint controller for elegant dimming and curated night scenes.

NOTES

Noted differences in costs for this quotation between 5 Star Proposal & 8-12-25 Meeting

The distinction between 5★ and 4★ sits primarily in the lantern selection and commissioning depth.
5★ uses Heritage lanterns and receives extended scene creation; 4★ uses black lanterns with simplified commissioning. All infrastructure remains upgrade-ready.

DEFINED INSTALL

Our cost efficient-specification scheme using premium architectural fittings

The 5★ specification delivers a fully elevated architectural treatment, using three Heritage lanterns to create a classical colonnade reminiscent of major London institutions. These period lanterns establish a formal rhythm along the ceiling line, while the concealed pillar uplighters and wing lighting bring out depth, proportion and texture across the full rear elevation. The effect is deliberately premium, highly refined, and rooted in traditional architectural detailing.

The defined scheme mirrors the same layout, structure and warm-white architectural intent. All other components remain identical: the LightPro column-uplighting kit, both 8-uplighter wing kits, the six sparkle-light circuits with sockets, concealed SWA cabling and full SpearPoint integration, alongside the removal of bulkheads and planter uplights.

The outcome is a coherent, elegant and cost-efficient alternative that achieves the same visual language and night-time ambience, with the only difference being the lantern style and associated reduction in capital cost.
