Left Octagonal Wing & Turret

Area 1

Zone B

This zone covers the full left-hand octagonal wing of Easthampstead Park, including the turret, stone bays and architectural recesses. The lighting scheme enhances the depth, texture and proportions of this distinctive feature, providing warm-white illumination that aligns seamlessly with the entrance frontage and right-hand wing to create a fully balanced architectural elevation.

The Brief

Overview of the proposed lighting installation

The left octagonal wing is one of the most distinctive architectural features of Easthampstead Park, forming a graceful transition between the central entrance and the extended façade. Its angled faces, deep reveals and turreted stonework lend themselves naturally to considered architectural lighting that enhances depth and character after dark. Carefully positioned uplighters lift each principal face of the octagon, ensuring even illumination without glare or visual flattening. A dedicated uplight to the turret subtly emphasises verticality and upper stone detailing, visually linking the wing to the roofline. Warm-white 2700K lighting preserves the building’s historic character, while low-voltage systems provide safety, flexibility and longevity. All infrastructure is heritage-safe and fully reversible, with control integrated into the SpearPoint façade system for balanced coordination with adjacent zones.

The Plan

Outline programme for the lighting installation

Area 1B extends the lighting scheme to the left of Area 1A and is fully integrated into the Spearhead control system. A dedicated power point will be installed, supplied via SWA armoured cabling, feeding an extra-low-voltage transformer positioned discreetly at the base of the hexagonal turret.

Around the base of the turret, four architectural uplighters — matching those used to illuminate the porch pilasters — will be positioned to light the front four corbels of the hexagonal turret, clearly defining its form and stone detailing. At roof level, five smaller, discreet fittings will project light upwards through the roof structure, visually drawing the eye to the weather vane and completing the vertical composition.

All fittings within Area 1B are controlled via the Spearhead lighting controller and operated by remote control, allowing this zone to function independently while remaining visually and technically coordinated with the wider frontage lighting scheme.

The Installation

Installation Methodology

All existing feeds in this zone are re-routed and consolidated to support the new low-voltage architectural scheme. A dedicated LV radial network supplies the Castor 9 fittings, served by a 100W transformer positioned within the Area 1 infrastructure plan. Trenching and reinstatement follow the agreed PC sum, with all stone fixings installed using non-invasive, heritage-safe methods. Power alignment is routed through the SpearPoint controller for balanced dimming, timed scenes and coordinated performance across Zones A, B, C and D. This approach ensures future flexibility, improved resilience and full integration with the central façade lighting strategy.

Future Proof

A lighting system built for future adaptability and reliability

This zone is fully integrated into the SpearPoint façade controller, enabling seasonal dimming, reduced winter brightness and event-specific uplight scenes that complement the entrance and terrace areas. The LV radial layout has been designed with spare capacity for temporary additions, such as warm-white festoon accents around the turret base or soft uplighting for seasonal projections on the stone bays. All fixtures in Zone B can be re-aimed for weddings, corporate hire or festive events without altering the core infrastructure. This ensures the left wing remains adaptable throughout the year and visually aligned with any future enhancements across the central frontage.

Warranties & Optional Maintenances Plan

All lighting installations by Garden Lighting Solutions by Eagle & Spear include a comprehensive 12-month warranty covering fittings and workmanship, providing assurance that the system will perform as designed. Any installation or component-related issues arising within this period will be addressed promptly and professionally at no additional cost.

The first year also includes a maintenance plan to protect the long-term quality of the installation. This covers routine system checks, minor alignment adjustments and confirmation that all fittings, connections and controls are operating correctly, helping to maintain consistent lighting levels as the garden matures.

After the initial 12 months, clients may opt for an annual maintenance plan. This can include inspections, lamp replacement, cleaning of fittings, repairs and ongoing optimisation, ensuring the lighting scheme continues to perform reliably year after year.
