Phase 2 of the Easthampstead Park lighting scheme is now underway, focusing on the pond garden and the hotel’s magnificent terraced landscape. With scale, symmetry and atmosphere firmly in mind, this phase is about shaping evening drama while preserving the estate’s calm, historic character.

Today marks the start of Phase 2 of our lighting works at Easthampstead Park Hotel, turning our attention to one of the estate’s most impressive outdoor spaces: the pond garden and a sweeping 70m x 35m sequence of grand terraces.

These terraces are not simply outdoor circulation routes. They are destinations in their own right — places for guests to pause, take in views across the water, and experience the building and landscape as a single, composed setting. Our role is to ensure that, after dusk, this experience is enhanced rather than overwhelmed.

Designing for scale and restraint

Large terraces demand a careful hand. Too little light and the space feels lost; too much and the sense of calm disappears. Here, the lighting design focuses on layering: subtle perimeter illumination, gentle definition of level changes, and carefully positioned accents that draw the eye towards the pond and surrounding planting.

Every fitting is positioned to respect sightlines from the terrace, the rooms above, and the wider grounds beyond. Glare control, beam discipline and warm colour temperatures are key — this is about elegance, not spectacle.

The pond garden as a visual anchor

Water changes everything in lighting design. Reflections double the visual impact, which means precision matters. In this phase, the pond garden becomes the quiet focal point of the terraces: softly illuminated edges, restrained highlights to key planting, and reflected light that animates the space without ever shouting for attention.

The result, when complete, will be a garden that feels alive in the evening — calm, assured and unmistakably luxurious.

Built to last

As with all our hotel and estate projects, this phase has been designed with longevity in mind. Robust fittings, serviceable layouts and future maintenance access are built into the scheme from day one. Good garden lighting should mature with the landscape, not fight against it.
