Clients choose Garden Lighting Solutions by Eagle & Spear for a calm, professional approach and attention to detail. Thoughtful design, robust installation and long-term planning combine to deliver exterior lighting systems that feel considered, dependable and quietly impressive.

The Brief

Scope & Client Requirements

Lighting design is guided by how a space is used, how it is experienced after dark, and how it will evolve over time. Each fitting is carefully selected and positioned with intent, allowing for adjustment to suit different seasons, planting changes, and desired visual effects. This adaptable approach ensures the installation remains balanced, practical, and visually comfortable—offering flexibility in mood and emphasis while continuing to perform beautifully both now and in the years ahead.

Location (Existing)

The rear garden at Bowater Lodge is approached as a balanced and architectural night-time composition, designed to enhance scale, structure and atmosphere without compromising its natural calm. The elevated lawn provides generous open space, framed by mature trees and carefully shaped shrub borders that form the backbone of the scheme.

Selective uplighting will articulate the strongest tree specimens, introducing height and vertical drama while maintaining restraint. Mid-level planting and clipped forms will be modelled subtly to create depth and layering behind the lawn. The central sculpture becomes a quiet focal point, lit with controlled, opposing light to sculpt form and shadow.

Light levels remain disciplined and warm throughout, preserving dark space across the grass to ensure elegance, contrast and visual comfort from the house.

The Plan

Proposed Lighting Approach

Lighting design is guided by how a space is used, how it is experienced after dark, and how it will evolve over time. Each fitting is carefully selected and positioned with intent, allowing for adjustment to suit different seasons, planting changes, and desired visual effects. This adaptable approach ensures the installation remains balanced, practical, and visually comfortable—offering flexibility in mood and emphasis while continuing to perform beautifully both now and in the years ahead.

Transformer locations within the rear garden at Bowater Lodge will be carefully selected to utilise existing mains power supplies wherever possible, keeping disruption and ground disturbance to a minimum. By working from established electrical points, we reduce upheaval to lawns and borders while maintaining a fully compliant and professionally installed system.

All existing power supplies will be thoroughly tested prior to connection, including load capacity, circuit protection and overall integrity. Where necessary, protective upgrades or minor improvements will be carried out to ensure a stable and future-ready electrical foundation.

From these supply points, we will install new professional-grade low-voltage transformers and distribution networks to serve the garden zones. This will support the installation of high-quality, durable low-voltage fittings throughout the scheme, selected for performance, longevity and refined optical control.

Transformers will be discreetly positioned within screened areas or planting beds, allowing logical zoning while remaining accessible for servicing. All power infrastructure, transformers and fittings will be included within our ongoing maintenance package, ensuring long-term reliability, safety and continued performance as the landscape matures.

Light Fittings

Proposed Lighting Fittings - 4 Key Foundation Fittings

The proposed light fittings have been carefully selected to deliver a warm, natural and refined night-time appearance, enhancing planting, trees and architectural features without harshness or glare. All fittings are professional-grade, designed specifically for permanent outdoor use, with robust construction, high-quality materials and precise optical control.

A warm white light palette is used throughout the scheme to create a calm, welcoming atmosphere that complements planting, masonry and timber finishes. This colour temperature reveals texture and depth while remaining subtle and comfortable to the eye. Carefully controlled beam angles ensure light is placed only where needed, resulting in a cohesive, elegant scheme with excellent visual balance and long-term reliability.

Installation & Power Notes

Set Up Details

Installation will utilise existing distributed 240-volt mains supplies wherever possible, each fully tested, certified and upgraded where required to ensure compliance and long-term reliability. From these points, professional low-voltage transformer systems will be integrated to create balanced, zoned garden circuits. Radio-transmitted switching will be incorporated, allowing remote control and flexible scene management without intrusive rewiring. All low-voltage cabling will be installed within flexible protective conduit wherever practicable, reducing risk from rodents, squirrels or accidental garden disturbance. This disciplined approach reflects Garden Lighting Solutions’ commitment to delivering a robust, high-quality system designed for durability, safe operation and seamless ongoing maintenance continuity.

Future Proof

Longer Term Future Planning

Every scheme we install is designed with the future in mind. Garden lighting should not be static; planting grows, trees mature and preferences evolve. Our systems are specified to allow adjustment, re-aiming, dimming and controlled expansion without starting again. We remain committed long after installation, offering ongoing maintenance, annual health checks and seasonal refinements to keep everything performing at its best. Connections, seals, drivers and lamps are monitored and replaced proactively where required. Should you wish to enhance or extend the scheme later, the infrastructure is already prepared. It is a professional, adaptable installation built to last and designed to evolve gracefully.

Light Fittings

Design Flexibility & Long-Term Commitment

Every scheme is carefully designed and professionally balanced, but gardens are best judged at night. For that reason, we allow for final refinement during installation, when we can review the effect together and make considered adjustments.

Should you wish to increase or reduce the number of light fittings, this can be done easily. The core infrastructure is designed with sensible capacity, so adapting fitting quantities is straightforward. Any adjustments are simply calculated using the clearly stated unit rates within this quotation.

You remain in control of how the scheme ultimately feels and the fitting costs. We guide, advise and fine-tune, but decisions are made together.

Our intention is not only to install a lighting system, but to build a long-term external lighting relationship; maintaining, evolving and supporting the scheme as your garden matures over time.
