Pond Garden & Lower Terrace – Lanterns, Bollards & Pond Feature Lighting
The Brief
Overview of the proposed lighting installation
This scheme creates a refined circuit of architectural lighting that defines the Pond Garden and lower terrace with clarity and warmth. Twenty-four discreet uplighters form gentle pools of light across the yew hedging, establishing structure and rhythm after dark. The pond is illuminated in warm white using four underwater spot fittings, adding depth and reflection. Four herbaceous garden lighting kits, each comprising a 1.5-metre triple-stand kit and eight adjustable spotlights, bring texture to the planting. Along the hotel side of the balustrade, a continuous row of uplighters reinforces the terrace wall and visually connects the terrace to the garden below. Together, these elements deliver a cohesive, warm-white night-time landscape supporting safe movement, visual drama and elegant use for events and evening enjoyment.

The Plan
Outline programme for the lighting installation
The Pond Garden lighting scheme operates on its own dedicated Spearhead control system, providing independent control and future expansion capacity. Four radial circuits serve one half of the rear garden pond area, with soft, staggered switching so the pond, yew hedging, herbaceous borders and upper stone balustrade illuminate gradually, enhancing atmosphere and visual comfort.
Architectural uplighters define the U-shaped hedging, complemented by warm-white in-pond and perimeter pond lighting to create depth and reflection. Two herbaceous border areas are each served by dedicated lighting kits, while a continuous row of uplighters washes the stone balustrade along the upper terrace, visually linking higher and lower garden levels.
All elements are selectable and controlled via remote control. Final aiming and spacing, particularly to the U-hedge, will be refined on site to achieve the preferred visual balance. All extra-low-voltage cabling is run in flexible conduit throughout the garden, providing enhanced protection, longevity and ease of future adjustment.
The Installation
Installation Methodology
This scheme is delivered without lamp posts and instead relies on a carefully structured mix of 240V and extra-low-voltage lighting. New 240V socket outlets are installed, trenched and fully protected, all connected back to the SpearPoint controller for unified switching, dimming and scene control. Extra-low-voltage lighting is used throughout walkways and sensitive areas, either tucked tight to physical barriers or installed within heavy-duty black conduit. Cabling is typically concealed beneath gravel runs between planters and along balustrade uplighting, ensuring safety, durability and visual discretion. The result is a robust, compliant installation that maintains a clean daytime appearance while delivering reliable, elegant night-time illumination.

Future Proof
A lighting system built for future adaptability and reliability
The SpearPoint controller allows simple scene selection for wedding arrivals, evening drinks, low-energy late-night modes and seasonal displays. The backbone cabling has spare capacity for future additions such as festoon lines, temporary sculptures or extra planting light into the Lower Park. The separate herbaceous garden power points also make it easy to plug in temporary decorative features or hire lighting without additional cabling.
Warranties & Optional Maintenances Plan
All lighting installations by Garden Lighting Solutions by Eagle & Spear include a comprehensive 12-month warranty covering fittings and workmanship, providing assurance that the system will perform as designed.
